Enjoying National Mojito Day in Sarasota

The traditional way

Remember the saying, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it? The same holds true here. The traditional mojito has been around since the 1930’s and has carried itself into present day for a reason. The five ingredient cocktail quenches every throat and puts a smile on tingling lips.

The best way to make it is the same way it was originated- with respect and care. The basic recipe calls for rum, sugar, mint leaves, club soda, and lime- similar to the daiquiri. To get that cool, breath of fresh air, stick to the recipe, no substitutes!

The kid friendly way

Kids can’t join in on everything, but when having a summer party in your Sarasota backyard, why not have a virgin activity the kids can participate in? The great thing about this drink is, although it won’t taste exactly the same, there is a kid-friendly way to make it.

One tip we highly recommend is having separate drink stations. Put the supervised kid's station outside, and the adults inside. This way, if the kids make a mess it won’t matter, and- more importantly- you won’t have to worry about ingredients getting mixed up.

This recipe calls for water, sugar, mint, club soda, and lime. Have an adult make the drink, but have the kids help with muddling the mint leaves. What kid doesn’t love smashing things?
